Competitions

Prize table

Most months have two ‘Major' weekend competitions. There are also Bank Holiday competitions. Most weekend or Bank Holiday competitions have a 9am tee-off (first 4-ball). Members agree that the prize table for all competitions is very impressive - particularly in relation to other clubs.

Members need to sign up for ‘Major' competitions in advance. This is usually done in the clubhouse after the completion of a competition and the entry sheets for the next few competitions are available. Your name can be added to the competition sheet by telephoning the pro-shop before the draw is made. Once the draw has been made it will be posted onto this website for you to find out your start time. Alternatively, you can phone or call into the pro shop to find out your start time. Email alerts are sent to members on a regular basis.

If you have to 'scratch' from a competition, it is very important that you let Darenth Valley know in advance. Do this by phoning the pro shop. If this is not done you may incur sanctions (from SKGC and/or DVGC). If you did not put your name down for a competition prior to the draw being made but then decide you want to play in the competition, you can telephone the Pro Shop and get your name added to the start sheet.

Each month there is a Stableford and a Medal competition that runs for one week (Thursday to Wednesday). Monthly winners receive cash prizes to be spent in the pro shop. Results will be displayed on this website (see below) and on the club noticeboard.

Other events include matches against other clubs and annual matchplay competitions. There is also a season-long 'Order of Merit' competition and a 'Scratch Gold Cup' - lowest gross scores in a selection of 'major' competitions. Details of all events are displayed on the club noticeboard in the changing room.

Please note that to receive any competition prize you must have paid your annual subscription before handing in your scorecard.

Next Competition:

Sunday 19 February 2012

* Gerry Plumstead (Stableford) *

Please note:

Those players with a tee-time of 10.24 or later must report to the starter, ready to play no later than 10.00.

Important Reminder

When you report to the starter you must be 'ready to play' - not ready to go into the clubhouse for breakfast!

If you fail to turn up for a competition you have been entered for, you run the risk of a two match ban. If you allow someone else to put your name down for competitions, please check the Starter's Sheet on the website or in the Pro Shop to see whether or not you are down for the next competition.

Please note that if you need to phone up on the morning of a competition to 'scratch' or ask for your tee time to be altered you should use the following number rather than the Pro Shop:

07599618200

Please ensure that you report to the starter on the 1st Tee - READY TO PLAY at least 20 minutes before your stated tee time.

Please ensure that your scorecard is completed in accordance with the rules of golf. It is the players' responsibility to ensure that the correct score is entered for each hole.

Message from your committee:

In an attempt to speed up play in competitions the Committee have introduced the following rule:

If your group falls a hole behind the group in front, and the group behind you are waiting, you are required to call them through.

Faiure to comply will result in EACH player in your group receiving the following penalty:

Medal - 2 strokes added to your total

Stableford - 2 points taken off your total

It is the responsibility of the group being held up to report the offending group to the Committee members dealing with the cards after the competition.

The Committee expects that, under normal conditions, a round of golf should not exceed 4 hours 15 mins.

Inter-Club Matches

During the course of the season Shoreham (Kent) Golf Club plays matches against a number of other golf clubs eg Hoebridge, Leaside and Langley Park.

Club members of all standards have the opportunity to play in such matches simply by "signing up" on sheet on the club noticeboard.

Professional's Cup

(Saturday 4 February)

George Booker and Andy Rumbold won this competition despite being 'mullered' in their swindle by me and Tony Randall (golf is a funny game).

'Rum' was consistent throughout the round, compiling 37 points to add to the 31 mustered by George, giving them 68 points. This was just enough to edge out Brian Harris and Frank King on the back 9.

Booker and Rum

(George and Rum - a close shave)

King and Harris

(Frank and Brian and a bloke with hair)

In third place, with 67 points were Paul and Kevin Bygrave.

Bygraves

(The Bygraves)

Rob Ouzman again showed great talent for choosing the winning footie team.

The biggest cheer of the day was given when it was announced that only one player had managed a 2 and scooped the whole of the 2's pot.

Bevan Bros. Trophy

(Sunday 15 January)

Three players shot a net 70 in this Medal competition but Nigel Wadey came out on top with the best back 9 to win the second competition of the year. Nigel also shot the lowest gross of the day.

Any members that have not paid their annual subscription are reminded that you cannot win a prize unless you have paid. This competition would have been won with a net 68 if the player had paid his subs. before the competition.

Nigel Wadey

(Nigel, on left, being congratulated by captain Garry Johnson)

John Ouzman won Division 1 with a better back 9 than Tony Randall.

John Ouzman

(John Ouzman will not give up his Order of Merit title without a fight)

Tony Randall

Tony Randall is currently shedding the pounds on a New Year diet. Makes a change from shedding shots at the end of his round!!

Dan Bygrave

(Dan Bygrave won Division 2 with a net 71) and was congratulated by the person he pipped - Garry Johnson was 2nd also with a 71.

S McKeown

(Steve McKeown was 3rd in Division 2 with a level par 72)

Rob Ouzman and Lee Hyland won the footie cards.

New Year's Cup

(Monday 2 January)

Lee Hyland won the first competition of the year by scoring 41 Stableford points to overcome Les Davey and J Spriggs who both accumulated 40 points.

Lee Hyland

(Lee, on left, being congratulated by incoming captain Garry Johnson)

Les Davey at last scored a hat-trick by winning Division 1 to add to the last competition and the December Stableford.

Les Davey

(A very happy Les Davey on the left)

Tony Mason got off to a good start to the season with 39 points.

Tony Mason

John Beeden had yet another sub-par (gross) round to take third spot in Div 1.

New member J Spriggs will not be playing off 23 any more after winning Division 2 with 40 points.

Outgoing captain Ron Tuckey showed that he is going to concentrate on his golf this year by scoring 38 points to take 2nd place in Division 2.

Ron Tuckey

Tony Randall nipped in to take 3rd spot in Division 2 but left to see his beloved Charlton Athletic win 2 - 0 against Brentford before the presentations.

The traditional Captain's Drive-in took place with both Ron Tuckey and Garry Johnson hitting fine tee-shots on the first hole. Billy Hodges was the nearest in guessing that Garry would hit his ball 193 yards and won £26 for his quid.

John Ouzman

John Ouzman was presented with his medal for winning the 2011 Order of Merit. Sadly for John, however, he did not earn as much money as Luke Donald managed for his Order of Merit titles.
