Competitions

Prize Table

Most months have two ‘Major' weekend competitions. There are also Bank Holiday competitions. Most weekend or Bank Holiday competitions have a 9am tee-off (first 4-ball). Members agree that the prize table for all competitions is very impressive - particularly in relation to other clubs.

Members need to sign up for ‘Major' competitions in advance. This is usually done in the clubhouse after the completion of a competition and the entry sheets for the next few competitions are available. Your name can be added to the competition sheet by telephoning the pro-shop before the draw is made. Once the draw has been made it will be posted onto this website for you to find out your start time. Alternatively, you can phone or call into the pro shop to find out your start time. Email alerts are sent to members on a regular basis.

If you have to 'scratch' from a competition, it is very important that you let Darenth Valley know in advance. Do this by phoning the pro shop. If this is not done you may incur sanctions (from SKGC and/or DVGC). If you did not put your name down for a competition prior to the draw being made but then decide you want to play in the competition, you can telephone the Pro Shop and get your name added to the start sheet.

Each month there is a Stableford and a Medal competition that runs for one week (Thursday to Wednesday). Monthly winners receive cash prizes to be spent in the pro shop. Results will be displayed on this website (see below) and on the club noticeboard.

Other events include matches against other clubs and annual matchplay competitions. There is also a season-long 'Order of Merit' competition and a 'Scratch Gold Cup' - lowest gross scores in a selection of 'major' competitions. Details of all events are displayed on the club noticeboard in the changing room.

Please note that to receive any competition prize you must have paid your annual subscription before handing in your scorecard.

Next Competition:

Saturday 11th September 2010

* King and Johnson Trophy* (Better-ball Medal Pairs)

Please note:

Those players with a tee-time of 10.24 or later must report to the starter, ready to play, no later than 10.00.

3 Tee times were 'lost' during a recent competition. Several players had not been 'scratched' from the start sheet. This makes the starter's job increasingly difficult. Please make all efforts to play in competitions you have signed up for.

When you report to the starter you must be 'ready to play' - not ready to go into the clubhouse for breakfast!

If you fail to turn up for a competition you have been entered for, you run the risk of a two match ban. If you allow someone else to put your name down for competitions, please check the Starter's Sheet on the website or in the Pro Shop to see whether or not you are down for the next competition.

Please ensure that you report to the starter on the 1st Tee - READY TO PLAY at least 20 minutes before your stated tee time.

Please ensure that your scorecard is completed in accordance with the rules of golf. It is the players' responsibility to ensure that the correct score is entered for each hole.

Message from your committee:

In an attempt to speed up play in competitions the Committee have introduced the following rule:

If your group falls a hole behind the group in front, and the group behind you are waiting, you are required to call them through.

Faiure to comply will result in EACH player in your group receiving the following penalty:

Medal - 2 strokes added to your total

Stableford - 2 points taken off your total

It is the responsibility of the group being held up to report the offending group to the Committee members dealing with the cards after the competition.

The Committee expects that, under normal conditions, a round of golf should not exceed 4 hours 15 mins.

Steward's Cup

Jim Johnson did not let a bad wrist and crocked shoulder get in the way as he notched up 37 points in windy conditions. Better still, he managed to get drawn out with Barry Nelson who managed 36 points.

Jim and Barry

They certainly are special.

George and Sean

George Booker continued his fine run of form with 38 points. Sean Moore chipped in with 33 points to claim therunners-up spot.

John and Gary

Robert Ouzman added another 3rd place by being paired with Gary Townsend, both with 35 points.

Vince Fay won the 'big'footie card yet again and
Tony (funky) Gibbon won the small card.

Mixed Pairs

Yet again the weather was fine for this event. All groups had an enjoyable 9 holes and a nice meal afterwards. £170 was raised for the Captain's charity in the raffle.

Vicky and Frank King were the only pair to manage a sub-par (net) 9 holes - Vicky must have putted very well indeed!!

Vicky and Frank

Donna and Rob Ouzman were just one shot behind in 2nd place.

Donna and Rob

In 3rd came Linda and Steve Cragg, also with a net 36.

Lin and Steve

In 4th came Rebecca and Tony Oliver with a net 39.

Club Championship

Most players found the second round of the Club Championship hard going. The early pace-setters such as Tony Oliver, Les Davey and Terry Johnson could not capitalise on their good scores from the first round and let John Hearn through to win the overall competition by a shot from Gerry Hartigan and Tony Mason.

J Hearn

John Hearn, new Club Champion, was the only player with a combined score under par.

G Hartigan

Gerry Hartigan came second with a net 144 .

T Mason

Tony Mason is growing in stature with every competition. Here he is, towering over Tony Freeman, collecting his third place prize for a net 175.

V Fay

Vince Fay won the Rabbits competition with 41 Stableford points.

D O'Carroll

Newcomer Dara O'Carroll came second in the Rabbits with 40 points.

A Oliver

Third in the Rabbits was Tony (the hare's running) Oliver.

The footie cards were won by Dave Bignall (See Bob), Ron Murrock and Tony Mason (I think).
